We find out very soon!
Yes, Obama will win. I've also realised a couple of things
Someone mentioned yesterday how scared they were that Obama would be assassinated once he got elected. This will not happen. He will be fine. The US Secret Service is pretty freakin' awesome at this sort of stuff. HOWEVER. It got me worried. Cos what if President Obama WAS assassinated?? That would mean... Joe BIDEN would be President. And that, my friends, would be something to be scared of. For starters, he thinks "jobs" is a three-letter word. And his memory is going. And he thinks his boss is too inexperienced to be President. Yes, it would be another four years of "dumb President" jokes. So please, redneck assassins. Let Obama live.
Also, further to my thoughts the other day, I realised why I have a "vague feeling of discomfort" about Obama
I remember his speech in 2004. The young, passionate firebrand out to save the world. It was powerful stuff and I remember thinking "this guy could go all the way one day".
When he declared for the race, I thought "cool, I think he'd do well."
Then a heap of people I know were like "Obama is awesome and amazing!" Fair enough.
Then a heap of people I don't really like were like "Obama is awesome and amazing!" Ooookay.
Then a heap of newspapers and media outlets were like "Obama is awesome and amazing!" Hmmm.
Then the entire internet was like "Obama is awesome and amazing!" Ohhh.
Then all these celebrities were like "Obama is awesome and amazing... and I'm famous!" Yeeaahhh..
Then pretty much the whole world except for half the USA went "Obama is awesome and amazing!"
And there I sat thinking "You know what... no one is this fantastic. All these people can't be right. What am I missing?"
So I looked around. I found out about his Federal grant to his wife's school, giving her a huge payraise. I found out about his connections to the Weathermen terrorist Bill Ayers, and how he kept lying about it. I found out about his friendship with a Palestinian separatist. I failed to find any significant policy ideas.
Especially, I noticed how none of this things were successful in attacking him. Enouch to bring down other candidates, but not Obama. Why? I don't know.
He seems scandal-proof. The Teflon Man. Nothing sticks. It looks like he will ride into Washington on a wave of acclaim.
And this bothers me. Because I've learned that everyone - everyone - has flaws. No one is this good. No one.
I worry that Obama will be elected without the full scrutiny of what he believes, who he associates with, and his decision-making history.
I feel like he'll get into office and have to start making tough decisions and only then will we see what his ideology is made of. When big business comes knocking, applies the pressure, and backs him into a corner. When unions start ranting and threatent to shut down the ports. When international allies start making noises about kicking the US out. When Congress holds up his bills because they're pissed off that he vetoed something. When an aide leaks a secret document that damages his reputation.
When all those things happen in the same week.
Because if you don't have ideology, something to base your decisions off, then you'll be swept away in the tough times. What is his ideology? "We should help people?" "Change we can believe in?" Nothing to base decisions on, in my opinion.
Honestly, he could do a really good job. But I worry that without the proper scrutiny he should have got, he will get into the White House under-prepared for a tough ideological battle.
Just my opinion! Feel free to disagree completely!!
