A hip, a hop, a hip-to-tha-hip-to-tha-hip hip hop

Today I heard Billy Joel's Uptown Girl on two separate radio stations within a couple of hours of each other. My sister said she'd heard it a couple of times on the radio over the weekend. Radio stations do this sometimes. I can distinctly remember a couple of years ago when the Dexy's Midnight Runners song 'Come On Eileen' had a radio revival.

It's still awesome, by the way.

And a few more years back when Rick Springfield's song 'Jesse's Girl' got a heap of radio play.
And yes, 'Jesse's Girl' will be featured in Guitar Hero: World Tour.

I wonder what is going through the minds of radio producers when they program these songs? I suppose there must be some kind of mini-zeitgeist going on, and the producers manage to tap into it.

Or maybe they all get together at each other's houses and are like "yo, how about next weekend we all play 'Rapper's Delight' at the same time?
