Looking for something new to watch?
My new favourites are:
United States of Tara
Australian Toni Collette plays a mum with a husband and two kids in a normal suburban life. Except she has several distinct multiple personalities. They're so distinct that she dresses and speaks differently as them, and her family refer to her by their particular names: Alice, T or Buck. It's a drama, but it's also hilarious too. Toni Collette is amazing. I really hope she wins some awards for this, because she shows such a range. The show really rests on her being able to sell the multiple personalities, and she does it really well.
Kings
Oh man. I've only seen the pilot episode and already I'm hooked. Basically, it's the story of David and Saul (from the Old Testament) except moved to a modern-day setting. In the Kingdom of Gilboa, King Silas has inaugurated his new capital of Shiloh. Two years later, young soldier David Shepherd single-handedly defeats a Goliath tank to rescue some hostages. From there, his rise in the court becomes set. There are only three episodes aired so far, in a 13 episode season. AND it's got Ian McShane AKA AL SWEARENGEN (!!!) as King Silas! And some dude from Home and Away.
Battlestar Galactica
Now I know this one is old. But I'm just getting into it now. It's just finished the end of the fourth season (and the end of the show) in America. I'm part way into the third season. And it's fun. And serious. And heartbreaking. And tense. And complex. And well-written. Look. If you're into sci-fi, check it out. If you're not into sci-fi, but you like good television, you should definitely check it out. Because it's not about the technobabble. It's about the stories.
Also, Stringer Bell just showed up on the US Office! And the last few episodes have been horribly, horribly painful. Sooooo painful to watch. Michael got his staff to 'roast' him because he thought it make him seem more approachable. Oh ouch. So hurt.
