I just finished episode four of Kings (well, episode three, but the first one was a two-parter). I'm loving it. I really, really hope it gets more than just the 13-episode season it's planned for so far. There is so much in the story of Saul and David (aka King Silas and David Shepherd) that remains to be told.
It got me thinking: what other great stories could a clever writer and showrunner turn into a great TV series or movie?
Daniel - elevated to being an advisor to the King in a country where his people are exiled slaves. He would face pressure from his own people, as well as pressure to do his job for the king.
Rabban Sauma - a 13th-century Christian monk sent by Kublai Kahn to seek a Christian-Mongol alliance against the Muslims.
Peter the Great - the ruthless giant of Russia, who dragged the country into the modern age with an iron fist and a bloodied axe.
Barbary pirates - slavers, pirates, thieves, human beings... these people dealt with governments that wanted them dead, businesses that hated them, other businesses that relied on their slaves, African slave traders selling people from other tribes, and the rough seas. There's something there for sure.
Papacy - pick one of the Popes (perhaps the Borgia one), and document the intrigue. Borgia would be a good option, actually, what with all the sex and violence and blatant nepotism.
Anyone else got any stories they'd love to see turned into TV shows?
