One out of four ain't bad

I was looking forward to seeing four big (US) Summer blockbusters over the last couple of months. Here's my reviews:X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Plot: Wolverine is like really old, and he's fought in every war ever. He gets an unbreakable metal skeleton. There are lots of fights.
Pros: Hugh Jackman is a great actor. So are Ryan Reynolds and Liev Schrieber. The action is pretty big, as expected. The Diamond Girl is cool. The opening action sequences in the 70s are pretty awesome.
Cons: Ummm... the script. It wasn't good. The dialogue was quite bad, although the actors did their best to make it work. The story was just a bit pointless, the pacing strange, and the climax stupidly overblown.
Rating: 4/10Star Trek
Plot: A Romulan goes back in time to kill James Kirk to stop him from becoming the Federation's most successful starship captain.
Pros: Good story, with strong chemistry between the characters. Actual humour, real tension, and great action. For fans of the series it was a welcome reboot. For non-fans it was a good, fun action movie.
Cons: Might have got a bit slow in the middle, and the villain was never really given the space to show his motivations. But that's about it.
Rating: 8/10
Terminator: Salvation
Plot: The distant future. Finally robotic beings rule the earth. Except John Connor is going to freak it up for them.
Pros: Big robot violence. Lots of it. Massive explosions. Big guns. Big car chases. Robot destruction. Robots. Violence. Robots. And a cameo from You-Guessed-Who. I liked Sam Worthington.
Cons: Unintentionally funny in places, and just a bit silly in others. Lacked a bit in the dialogue department. Completely screwed the Terminator timeline.
Rating: 6/10Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Plot: Turns out the Transformers were on Earth thousands of years ago, and now those original ones are back. To fight. Also, Megan Fox is attractive.
Pros: Big robot violence. Lots of it. Massive explosions. Big guns. Big car chases. Robot destruction. Robots. Violence. Robots. But also, Megan Fox is attractive. And Shia Lebouf is pretty good.
Cons: Argh! The horrible script. Horrible. The dialogue is cringe-inducing in most places. The confusing story line. The ending that felt like the end of a TV episode (apart from the thousands of explosions).
Rating: 3/10 (only that high cos the robot violence was so impressive. And Megan Fox looks good in shorts)

Another thing I just noticed - Australia actors featured in all four films. Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Eric Bana and Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), Sam Worthington (Terminator) and Isabel Lucas (Transformers). Nice work Aussies!
