- You have probably seen this, but... same name couple from Facebook set to marry. Kelly Hildebrandt and Kelly Hildebrandt met when they contacted each other on Facebook as the only Kelly Hildebrandts on the site. Cue jokes about pokes etc. Cute story.
- An expansive interview with Sir Alex Ferguson, where he talks about pretty much everything going on in football at the moment. Lots of good quotes.
- English survey shows women trying to lose weight want to be curvy, not stick thin. Nigella Lawson ranked as the favourite body type. (The Sun, of course, being The Sun, chose to illustrate it with the most bosomy photo of Nigella it could find):The rest of the list: Most admired celeb shapes - 1. Nigella Lawson; 2. Helen Mirren; 3. Judi Dench; 4. Kate Winslet; 5. Julie Walters; 6. Martine McCutcheon; 7. Holly Willoughby; 8. Joanna Lumley; 9. Catherine Zeta-Jones; 10. Kirstie Allsopp.
- I must say I'm a bit shocked to find Janet Albrechtsen filling her column with some sensible ideas. Normally it's all Green-bashing this, Lefty-bashing that. She talks about how Peter Garrett is doing the sensible, adult, mature thing and judging proposals as Environment Minister on their merits. He is copping flak for it, but he's doing his job professionally and appropriately. He understands the world we live in. But Janet goes on to make this point, which I found interesting:
The Garrett saga highlights the particularly unfortunate outgrowth of modern culture: the idealisation of idealism. A passionate wish to improve the world is nowadays so often seen as honourable in itself, even if the change sought is patently unachievable or clearly undesirable. What passes for moral integrity and clarity is frequently little more than a juvenile inability to deal with complexity or understand contrary views.I guess as people get older they like to wish for less complex times. And throwing yourself headlong into a passionate cause is something that takes a lot of people back to their youth, when the world was simple and wrongs were made to be righted. Unfortunately, we don't live in a stylised version of our youth (at least, I don't) - we live in the real world.
Anyway, the article was interesting, so fair play Janet.
- And finally I loved this clip that Taylor Swift did with T-Pain to open the Country Music Awards (or something similar) the other day:
I don't know much about Taylor Swift, but she seems funny in this clip. And T-Pain can take the piss out of himself. Nice work, Country Music peeps!
