A kick up the Arts

Dr Harry posted this, and I thought it was pretty hilarious tooI also have an Arts degree, and we are allowed to laugh at ourselves. However, I do have something to say on this.

Arts degrees are derided by the majority of students as being the easiest, slackest, laziest degrees possible. This can be true. However, I would ask you to do a comparative analysis.

(Based on my experience)

Arts vs Business/Commerce

Lectures
Arts: Twice a week, you have to go along to get any handouts or notes. Barely any online presence.
Business: All lecture notes online, barely any new information in the actual speech. Not worth going along.

Tutorials
Arts: Compulsory attendance for two-thirds or three-quarters of them. Important chance to understand the essay questions and exams better.
Business: You only need to attend the tutes with tests in them. You don't even need to attend those if you think you can take the hit in your marks.

Assignments
Arts: Hours of tracking down books, and then hours and hours more reading, just to get a slight handle on the topic. Then write 2500 words presenting an opinion
Business: Download lecture notes, read correct chapter in textbook, regurgitate into essay.

Exam
Arts: Three essays, two hours, with questions that may or may not bear a resemblance to the information presented to you in class.
Business: Multiple choice options and essays (if you're unlucky).

Results
Arts: All dependent on how your lecturer was feeling at the time, and whether you unquestioningly believed what they said or not.
Business: If you've ticked the right boxes in your essay and exam, then boom. Done.

Which one sounds easier? The one where you get spoonfed and don't have to attend class? Or the one where you have to do some independent research and reading?
