I’m sure by now you’ve all watched the Barbie Fashion Show 2009 Collection finale on my blog, if not you should its so good! Luckily I didn’t have to wait to get in because I heard there were 100s of people locked out, even if you had an invite it didn’t mean you’re getting in. The line to get check-in and get into the show was horrendous, it was the longest and craziest I’ve seen so far. After I got in, I’ve been Twittering like mad once I entered the Tent, I spotted Diane von Furstenberg, Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou, Simon Doonan, Sarah Colette (so good to see you again), J. Alexander (Miss Jay) and Tarina Tarantino (so nice to meet you!)! Even though I was sitting second row the pics didn’t come out that good, the lighting was pink and the models were too fast I was also too distracted from the show haha. But I didn’t forget to shoot my finale video, that part is essential! By far one of the best shows, Barbie’s first fashion show was a blast, it was the most energetic and fun show I’ve attended. It was lots of fun during the show and after in the backstage watching models peeling off hot pink press on nails and removing extreme eye makeup- hey being “plastic” is not that easy. Each guest received a Barbie doll, a box of chocolate and a Barbie book, all my Barbie memories came back- I used to own about 10 Barbies but gave all to my cousins as I got older.

And Things That Go Bump in the Night

Happy Halloween!  It is the night before All Saints Day and the ghosts and goblins are out, so beware.

This afternoon we picked up two of the Fab 5 from their other grandmother, came back to our house and proceeded to carve our pumpkins.  I must say they turned out rather well and we are already talking about what we will carve into our "jacks" next year.  But that is for another day.  Let me share with you our handiwork!

 Whoooo's pumpkin is this?  Olivia's.  She wanted an owl, so we put him on a tree branch.

And the final picture is our front door.  One last hurrah for October and Halloween.  Tomorrow the turkeys come out and all the spooky stuff goes away for one more year.

belle amie leave the x factor voted off tonight

sad to see belle amie leave really as i really enjoyed there venus song yesterday, they just basically got the least votes in the end, which seems to happen with the girl groups on the x factor show.

this can be the trouble with the x factor, the acts can be getting better and doing some good performances like belle amie with the venus song on last night's x factor but still get voted off due to the show being so competitive and due to the voting system.

what was katie waissel song in bottom 2 deadlock?

katie waissel gave another great performance in the bottom 2 as louis walsh called for deadlock, by voting katie waissel off the show, so it was 2 votes each betweem katie waissel and belle amie, and came down to who had the least votes luckily for katie waissel belle amie had polled the least phone votes and so had to leave the x factor competition.

problem is katie waissel sung a great song but it was a obscure song i don't think i have heard before so i don't know what the song name is at the moment, same thing with belle amie song as well i have no clue what the song was.

i can't really remember the lyrics to the song either so that i could go work out what the song was.

what time is x factor on tv tonight?

what time is x factor on?, not long to wait for x factor on tv tonight it starts this sunday night 31st october at 8pm until 9pm, so just the 1 hour show though, but it will be jam packed from start to finish.

look out for rihanna, bon jovi and jamiroquai to be performing on tonight's x factor and of course the all important results section at the end of the show, with it really up in there air on who will end up in the bottom 2 for this weeks x factor live show week 4.

there are only 11 acts remaining in the x factor show so it could really be any one though tonight who gets voted off as all the acts sung very well on last night's x factor show, with stand out performances across the board.

The Origins of Halloween and Guy Fawkes Day

Early practitioners of pagan religions (usually the Celts) often get credited as being the root source of our modern day Halloween.  But this is only partially true, as a great deal of the credit actually belongs to Christianity. 

During the first century when Christianity began to spread across Europe, the Christian Church co-opted various Pagan holidays and practices because they were very popular with the population.  The decision to combine several pagan festival dates while giving them a Christian slant better enabled the transition from Paganism to Christianity.

The first holiday that would help make the Church make the transition was the widely practiced pagan holiday -  Lemuria which was held on May 13th.  It was believed that annually on this day, the dead would rise up from the grave and return as ghosts to haunt the living - unless they were placated which was done by pouring milk on their graves or offering them little cakes.  In 609 AD, the Church co-opted Lemuria and changed the name of the holiday to All Saints Day.   A day meant to honor the holiest of church saints.

The holiday was very successful, and the Roman church moved the date to November 1 and the adopted name of All Saints Day changed to All Hallows Day. The reason it was moved was for the purpose of "draining the life" of the Pagan holiday Samhain which fell on October 31. 

The result of this move was that people began referring to Samhain as All Hallows Evening.  The name then shortened to All Hallows Even and eventually shortened to Halloween.  Taking a further step, the Church created a new holiday called All Souls Day on November 2nd which was the purpose of honoring all departed Christians. 

The Church also gets credit for establishing the first Trick or Treating practice although it is not the same as the modern day Trick or Treating done by children today - but does share some resemblances.  The Catholic Church told its practitioners that many of their loved ones were not in Heaven or in Hell but stuck  in the middle in a place referred to as Purgatory.  The only way they would be granted entrance into Heaven, the Church told them, was to say enough Christian prayers for their souls so that they would rise up into Heaven.

Relatives of the dead began to seek anyone who would help say prayers to help their departed family members escape to Heaven.  The result of this was that Medieval beggars and poor people would go door to door, and for a small fee of a soul cake -  usually made up of flour, spices and raisins -  they would offer up prayers for the dead.  The significance of this tradition started by the Church is the basis for the references to death, dying, graveyards and other death-related elements found in our modern day Halloween.

Over time, the beggars became more rowdy and demanding for food and drink, and even took to wearing masks as to disguise their identities.  This further gave rise to unruly behavior and even destructive acts during Halloween night.  Over time, most of these traditions were found only in rural, country areas of Europe, and England.  But it was about to get a big boost in London.

 On November 5, 1605, Guy Fawkes, a pro-Catholic terrorist, attempted to blow up the House of Lords in what was known as the Gunpowder Plot.  Guido Fawkes was caught, tried, hung, and his body drawn and quartered, and his body parts were thrown into a large bonfire in front of cheering crowds.  Each year after that and even today, the tradition of bonfires and burning Guy Fawkes in effigy is repeated. This holiday is very close to Halloween, and many of the traditions of wearing masks, begging for treats, and celebrations carried over from Halloween.

As immigrants came to America, many of them brought with them the traditions of Halloween.  Since a large majority of the immigrants came from England, and were still British subjects, Guy Fawkes Day combined with Halloween practices took hold in the Colonies, and became adopted by all Colonists.

And as immigration extended beyond Protestant Englishmen, the Guy Fawkes holiday dissipated but Halloween grew.  As expected,  traditions morphed over time to our modern day American Halloween - Jack 'O Lanterns, Headless Horsemen, Ghosts and Goblins, and masks and candy.  

Interestingly enough, over the last century, American traditions expanded outward and returned back to the place from which it came.  Although Guy Fawkes Day still remains a much larger holiday in England then Halloween, Halloween is still widely celebrated by children and adults alike.

last night's x factor halloween edition was one of the best of the series really, with great performances from all the acts really.

Described as a Bikini Beach Movie in a Haunted House, I have no idea what this movie is about. Something about a ghost in a bikini. And some corpse (Boris Karloff!). And some second rate actors when they couldn't get Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. This movie is actually in the series of Bikini movies including Beach Blanket Bingo.

Well, blue ghost in a bikini (which isn't actually invisible, since you can see the bikini. Not sure about that either) definitely qualifies as a Blue Chick!

Sharing Fall

I love swaps!  Recently I requested to join a fall swap that was being hosted by Karen at Some Days Are Diamonds, which is a lovely blog and I encourage each of you to visit and see for yourselves.  Karen was my swap partner and a wonderful partner she was!  The idea of the swap was to take a cigar box, any kind, any size, alter or decorate in a fall theme and put as many fall goodies into it as it could hold.  Oh, what fun it was to plan, decorate and fill that cigar box for Karen.  Last week I received my box from Karen.  What a delight to unwrap and explore what was in it.  Let me share what she sent me! This is the top of the box.  Isn't it lovely? 

 Upon opening the box, this lay inside, just waiting to be revealed. There was a small pile of ephemera bound by a black tulle bow with the cutest vintage owl pin EVER!  Can't wait to wear it!  There were old stamps, a vintage playing card, fall K& Company stickers.

  Then there were two antique wooden clothespins with ribbon wrapped around them, as well as an old wooden thread spool with more ribbon and a dainty little nosegay tucked into it.  A wooden tile with my initial stamped upon it, as well as a metal rim tag initialized, too.

 Aah...but the loveliest thing is this:  A wonderful wall hanging! It was lying on top of the cigar box and took my breath away when I spied it.  Upon further inspection, the background is a vintage piece of sheet music, "Don't Let That Moon Get Away", sung by Bing Crosby.  I love Bing Crosby and his old movies!  And I had just done a blog entry about the Harvest Moon and the Fall Equinox.  There is a vintage electrical socket plate, vintage ribbons, Scrabble tiles, lace, an old movie ticket, all combined so beautifully.  It now hangs where I can see it and will become a treasured part of my fall decorations.

So now you have a glimpse of why I love to participate in swaps.  Not only do I have the opportunity to create something to reflect my personality for someone who lives in a different part of the country, but it delivers wonderful surprises in return.  But, as I have stated before, the very best part is making friends with other creative, imaginative women who may live very far away, but who have so much in common with me.  Making new friends is my favorite part!

So thank you, Karen, for letting me be a part of the swap and for such a wonderful gift.  I will treasure it and your friendship for a long, long time.

matt cardle got very mixed results tonight with his rendition of the leona lewis song bleeding love, some of the judges really liked matt cardle version of bleeding love while others did not seem to.

i think matt cardle actually put on a really good performance and put his own twist to the song as they say made it his own, even though matt cardle seemed to struggle singing bleeding love for the first section of the song by the end of the song he was in full swing with lots of high notes and his own unique twist to the song.

it actually sounds better listening back to it on youtube in some ways really.

The 60th MISS WORLD Is....UNITED STATES

Miss World 2010 has been chosen from United States. Mills a soft-spoken 18-year-old, from Louisville, Kentucky, and recently graduated from high school.

Second place went to Emma Wareus of Botswana, and Adriana Vasini of Venezuela came third.

Alexandria Mills won the U.S. crown of Miss World 2010 was over 100 other candidates at a ceremony in southern China.
