Pakistan's Elite Attend Fashion Pakistan Week

KARACHI, PAKISTAN - NOVEMBER 04: A Pakistani model wearing clothes by a Pakistani designer walks the catwalk during the 1st day of Fashion Pakistan Week on November 4, 2009 in Karachi, Pakistan. Fashion Pakistan Week commenced today amidst security threats. The organisers already postponed the event twice due to security fears and the threat of ongoing militant violence. The four day long event will feature over 30 Pakistani designers and will showcase the best of fashion in Pakistan.

Described it as bizarre, Zaiena Haider’s collection infused the human anatomy with mythical creatures such as the unicorn.

Zaiena Haider’s concept flirted with the realm of fantasy, as she used chamois and Crepe de China as predominant fabrics. She has included tights, cowl neck warmers and waist coats and the fabric designs are her own, which helped in making each ensemble unique and true to her personal style. Her bright and inviting color palette enhanced the layering and gathering of fabrics, while the simplistic cuts complimented the complex prints and embellishments.

There was a lot of paneling and gathering this season, and Zaiena surely does not hold back with the upcoming trend. The attention to the fabric quality, amongst other things, made Zaiena’s collection truly seasonally appropriate. In fact, she insisted that each garment was nothing less than a representation of her style!

KARACHI: On day two of the Fashion Pakistan 2010 Week, a softer image of Pakistan emerged on the world stage – far better than similar efforts made during Musharraf regime with his “enlightened moderation” concept.

Participants from two Pakistani fashion design schools stunned the Karachi audience with their creations.

Students from the Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design and the Asian Institute of Fashion Design presented several stunning and creative designs in chiffon, leather and silk in myriad colours and forms. All these costumes by fashion design students were well presented by the models.

Pakistan Fashion Week 2010 particularly presentations by these fashion institutes show the softer image of Pakistan. “It’s the soft Pakistan, the real Pakistan, the softer Pakistan we always have inside of us”, said one fashion enthusiast. The Pakistani fashion week will showcase some 52 designers, 49 of whom are from Pakistan, while others are from Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

FPW 2010 is being held in Karachi for the send time in two years. The organizer is Ayesha Tammy Haq.

Pakistani fashion designers like Deepak Perwani, Maheen Khan and Shumail presented their creations on the catwalk stunning everyone with their designs. On the first day of the Fashion Week, 11 designers showcased their work, with Sana Safina’s and Zaheer Abbas’ grabbing the limelight.

Other Pakistani fashion designers who presented their creations on Monday were Shakeel Saigal, Rabia, Monia Faruqi, Shahla Rehman and Alize Shah.

A UAE-based fashion designer presented an intriguing collection titled “Veil”.
