Okay, another bunch of links, but only because I've got so many and I want to get them out of the way! Seriously, I've got 99 problems but links ain't one.
So:
- A new pilot from David Milch, aka the man behind Deadwood. Still a legendary show that I think has been in the shadow of The Wire recently. This one is about horse racing.
- And a new show from David Simon, the man behind The Wire. It's about Hurricane Katrina. Should be multi-layered and critically acclaimed. Like an onion. Or a tasty parfait.
- HBO is doing a show about 1920s gangsters, with Steve Buscemi! Yus!
- Great article about what happens if you get the best violinist of his generation to busk in a Washington plaza. Really good read, and a fun idea.
- Gladwell yet again proves why he's so fantastic with this great article about jobs that you need to do before you know if you're any good at them. The ones he talks about are school teachers and NFL quarterbacks. Interesting for me in my role as education reporter.
- New York Times investigating the Church of Scientology. I have to say the allegations are remarkably similar and crop up across every branch of Scientology.
- Australia not pulling its weight in Afghanistan, with our soldiers not allowed to fight due to political pressure from our Government. I understand the desire to keep soldiers safe and keep death tolls down... but soldiers are soldiers. It's their job to wage violence when necessary.
