Great writing expands your perspective. Here are some I really enjoyed.
The Angriest Man In Television by Marc Bowden. It's about David Simon and The Wire, and gave me a new perspective on the show. It starts as a tribute and ends as a rebuke, and it's very powerful. Written before the fifth season aired, it is a pre-emptive defence of a couple of the characters Bowden expected to see in season five. And he makes sense. He doesn't take anything away from the brilliance of the show, but does provide a tempering view that conflicts with Simon's unerringly bleak vision of reality.
George Clooney Saved My Novel by Walter Kirn. A happy story of a book that was never going to be a film until Jason Reitman and George Clooney got behind it.
Mr Murdoch Goes To War by Marc Bowden. In this one he looks at Murdoch's takeover of the Wall Street Journal. It helps if you've read The Man Who Owns The News, the profile of Murdoch, but even still you'll get an idea of the power of the man. Bowden presents a negative view of Murdoch in this piece, but I tend to think the truth is somewhat different. Anyway, good article.
