Pinned

Are all of you obsessed with Pinterest yet? I definitely am. It's changed my life. Facebook can't hold a candle to pinterest, in my opinion.

I was pinning along, and stumbled across this website, which offers tips to help moms take photos of themselves with their kids. Some of them are great tips. Some of them go beyond my very, very amateur photography knowledge. But either way, the tips are based on the idea that women don't like having their picture taken. True? Probably, yes. The author recommends putting on makeup and picking up the house to overcome self-consciousness. But that's only half the problem, as I've mentioned previously. The other half is that many dads are not taking part in capturing and documenting family memories. Many of them don't pick up the flippin camera.

She suggests using a tripod, pre-focusing, and using a remote control to take the shots.

Is this empowering or degrading?

If you're doing this, snaps to you for managing to get in some photos. I know how hard it is! But am I missing something? The photos accompanying the post are only of children with their mothers. Not the whole family. It doesn't take a self-timer, peeps. If you're married or partnered, tell your significant other to PICK UP THE CAMERA. Because it's just a little sad for me to envision you setting the tripod and aperture (whatever that is?) in order to get a photo of yourself when you take so many photos of your partner with your children. In fact, it's painful.

Agreed?

Time Friendly Printed Postcards from Stationery Online

I am back from a few days of much needed family time and ready & rearing to go! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and that you made Santa's nice list. For those of you who are time poor during the holiday season - as so many of my friends have told me they are - I had a solution this year to that annual job we all seem to put off until the last minute....you know the one I am talking about - your family Christmas cards. I have had email greetings from friends apologising for not sending cards due to time constraints and believe me, had I not found Stationery Online, that would have been me this year. In the past I had been one to do a family newsletter (you know, those sometimes annoying summaries of what you have all achieved in that year) but for the past couple of years, with three children to attend to (yes, hubby included ha ha), ballet classes, pre-school, swimming, tennis and trying to squeeze in some "me" time as well, who really has the time anymore. I used the beautiful photo of my girls we had taken by Hawkins Photography (which I have previously blogged about), and it was as simple as emailing it with my chosen template, proofing the text (there is room on the back to have your greeting pre-printed to save on having to sign off on all of them) and once that was all finalised, I received them the next day. Melissa and her team were awesome - so helpful and friendly - and I would highly recommend them for any printed items you may need - party invitations, birth announcements etc. As you would expect, it was a little more expensive than buying cards at the supermarket and not as personal as a handwritten note but my extra time with my family is priceless this time of year and though I did jot down some personal notes on some of the cards for close family, most of the recipients were stoked to get a beautiful photograph of the girls to put on the fridge. For more on the templates available, go to the Stationery Online website and have a sneaky peak

Hawkins Photography - Simply Beautiful

When you become parents you are forever taking photos of your kids but there is alot to be said about having some professional shots taken. It is always a dilemma to find a good photographer, one who gives you what you pay for as well as provides a great experience on the day. After all, if the kids are relaxed, then you will get some great images. The above photograph of my gorgeous girls speaks for itself. We chose Hawkins Photography because we liked the images on their website & wanted more casual, outdoor shots as apposed to studio portraits. We had a lovely morning on the beach in Sydney & this is just one of many photographs we had to choose from. A father himself, Lyndon had a lovely rapport with the kids and they had a lot of fun which came through in all the shots. I can safely say we are very happy customers. Christmas is just around the corner so if you are looking for a great present for the grandparents, contact Hawkins Photography through their website.
