Dead or Alive 5 Announced!

Dead or Alive 5 was just announced at the Tokyo Game Show. It will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2012. The teaser image above looks like it's either a slightly more mature Kasumi or perhaps it's Hitomi. Of course it could be someone new altogether.

My biggest hope is that it will also come out for Vita. Cross play and save file importing between the Vita and PS3 versions would be awesome.

The first gameplay trailer is looking pretty good. Very much DOA style fighting, but very nice upgrades in lighting and arena effects. It's hard to judge character model detail in this movie though. It does look beefier than DOA 4.

More Dead or Alive Dimensions DLC Costumes Coming

Famitsu just posted some new costumes that will be included in the next round of DLC costume for Dead or Alive Dimensions. Starting in August 15th in Japan, they will re-distribute the initial batch of DLC costumes, but a few new ones will be added to the mix. My Japanese is a bit rusty so some details may differ.

Thanks to GET! reader Josef Axner for the heads up!

I would normally be more tempted by this news and the recent price cut, but I'm in greater need of a new computer.  Hopefully we'll see a version DOA on the Vita as that looks to be my main gaming machine of 2012.

Costumes in real 3D

The rumored Dead or Alive 5 was a no show at E3, but the consolation prize is not too shabby. Dead or Alive for the Nintendo 3DS will be based on the fighting game series and not the beach volleyball side stories. It had to be tempting for Tecmo/Koei to offer the voyeuristic thrills of DOA Xtreme in 3D(!) so hats off to this tasteful show of restraint, at least for the launch of the system anyway.

Aside from some screens, no solid information is available. Is this a port of one of the existing installments or something brand new? I'm putting my money on a modified version of Dead or Alive 2 from the Xbox Ultimate collection with perhaps some new characters.
