THE ART OF APPLYING MAKEUP
THE ART OF APPLYING MAKEUP
Applying makeup is in fact an art. You can learn this art by following these simple tips.
FOUNDATION
Applying foundation is a simple procedure but a lot of mistakes can be made. Here is an easy way to look great.
How to apply:
Foundation is not going to help you if it's the wrong color. Check out testers at the cosmetic shop and see which samples match your specific coloring.
Apply foundation by dotting it on your forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. If you don't want all over coverage, apply just in the needed areas.
Dampen a sponge and gently distribute the foundation across your face.
Check jaw line and hairline to make sure foundation is well blended.
Use pads of fingers and press gently all over your face. The heat from your fingers will help in the blending process. Don't avoid this step.
Go to a natural light source and check your application. Any problem areas will stand out so that they can be attended to.
Further Tips:
Be sure to blend, blend, blend. Special areas to watch are the hair and jaw line. And be sure that your face isn't one color and your neck another.
Apply foundation with a wet sponge. When wet, the sponge promises a sheer layer of coverage. Try it both ways to see which you prefer.
BLUSH
There are lots of techniques that you can use to apply color to your cheeks. Here is the easiest way.
How to apply:
Choose a blush brush that works best for you. The big fluffy kind might not be your choice, so pick what YOU like to work with.
Pick up a little color on the brush.
Tap brush on hard surface to remove excess color.
Locate the prominence of your cheeks.
Apply just a dusting of color using small circular movements.
Using same brush, blend to hide edges.
Further Tips:
A good rule of thumb is to toss blush after six months to avoid getting infections caused by bacteria build-up. Keep your blush brush as clean as possible!
Do you have a few of shades of blush in your makeup collection? Try combining the colors to make new ones. You will be surprised at the number of shades you can create.
It doesn't take as long to sweep a little powdered shadow onto your cheekbones, but it doesn't last very long. Try smoothing a little cream blush on before applying the powdered blush to make the color last longer.
EYE SHADOW
Applying eye shadow can be a little tricky. But if you know how to do it, it can be quick and easy.
How to apply:
Dust eyelid with a dampened brush and a little face powder. This will help to prevent your shadow from melting.
Choose three shades in the same color family - light, medium and a darker shade for contrast.
Apply the lightest shade on the entire lid from brow to lash line.
The medium shade is going to bring out the color of your eyes. Apply from lash line to just above the crease.
The darkest color is going to be applied close to the lashes. Dampen the brush and then pick up a little color. Smudge it in around the lash base. If you have bags beneath your eyes, you might want to only line the top lashes.
Further Tips:
Use a touch of gold shadow on the brow bone (bony prominence under the eyebrow) to make your eyes look even brighter. You can use powder or one of those fat pencils.
For the aging skin it is wiser to stay away from bright colors.
Subtlety is what you are looking for at this point, as softer colors are far more flattering and less aging.
Pearly shades are great for highlighting the brow bone and opening up the eye area.
LIPSTICK
Want to turn heads when you walk into your next party? Red can do that for you, but you need to know just a few little tricks first!
How to apply:
Apply a light layer of foundation to your lips. Allow a few seconds to dry.
Dust on a layer of powder.
Outline lips with lip-liner if your lipstick tends to bleed at the edges. Be sure that the pencil matches your lip color.
Apply color (with a brush) to the center of your lips and then brush color out toward the edges.
Blot lips with a tissue.
Reapply a second layer of lipstick with your lip-brush. The application of the second layer over a blotted first layer will ensure that your color lasts for hours.
Further Tips:
If your lips are too thin, bright reds will make them look more prominent.
Lips that are too full can be minimized by using brown reds, or other darker colours.
A TEN MINUTE MAKEUP ROUTINE
Apply a cold compress to the eye area to reduce any puffiness.
Apply moisturizer.
Dot on foundation and blend. Using a sponge will help tremendously with this particular step. Check that there is no foundation line on neck.
Apply concealing cream to blemishes or dark circles using tip of fingers. Just a tiny bit is sufficient.
Apply blush and also a touch of highlighter to temple area and top of the cheeks for an added glow.
Brush brows into position. Check for holes in the brows from over-plucking.
Apply color to brows if necessary. A little hair gel will help hold them in place.
Apply eye shadow. A brush can offer a lot more control than a sponge applicator. To darken the color, simply add another layer of color. Each layer will intensify the shade.
Apply eye liner. There are lots of liners to choose from. If you have oily lids, a solid liner applied with a little water and a brush, works well.
Curl your lashes, with eyelash curler.
Apply mascara. Two layers are usually better than one. But be sure that you comb out any lumps that might build up.
Apply lip color. Using a brush will ensure a thinner coat lipstick and a prettier lip line.
Set makeup with a little loose powder and a fluffy brush.
Check your blush and add a tiny bit more if necessary.
Further Tips:
Highlighter is tricky. You need just a touch to be effective.
Apply an exfoliating liquid to your face to remove dead skin cells, if you have more time. If your face has a dull look to it, the exfoliating liquid will slough off the old skin cells that are causing that problem.
Have a tiny pair of scissors close by to snip brows if necessary.
You might want to mix your dry eye shadow with a little water to make it last even longer.

Chapter 49.95: Wrong Again
I'll say this, they certainly turned things on at the right time, but that assumes such a thing is possible, and I don't believe that. Baseball skills are not something one "turns on" at that level, and I don't believe the Tigers had turned theirs off. The Cardinals beat the Tigers. It's as simple and as complicated as that. I have enormous respect for what Jim Leyland has done with his teams throughout his managerial career. But I don't think for a second that he or his coaches have trained Joel Zumaya to go to third on a grounder back to the pitcher with men on first and second. What the hell was he thinking? You don't see that play in Rookie ball. I don't think you see it in high school varsity. The play in that circumstance is to second base.
The Tigers players, for whatever reason, lost their baseball smarts. I didn't think it could continue, but I suppose once THAT momentum has begun, it's hard to stop. Until the team loses. How much you want to bet that after reminding their pitchers to head toward first on a grounder to the right side, they go over first and second with less than two outs.

Paying for unlocks
There’s been lots of discussion about what game companies are charging for additional content on Xbox Live and future plans for the PS3 and Wii networks. Up until a few weeks ago, the most outrageous content was several bucks for some horse armor. It has since escalated to odd items like a new stadium and video tutorials. I say odd because these are traditionally things included in the game for free.
I think there’s going to be a very ugly period where we see some ridiculous attempts at gouging gamers, but it’ll all settle into something that works. Remember the early days of UMD movies? Those damn things were flying off the shelves at the same price of DVDs, but with far fewer features and crap picture quality. Well, the novelty wore off and now the format is just about dead. Unlike UMDs, digital purchases, micro-transactions or whatever you want to call it are here to stay. It’s a solid concept that gamers have embraced up to a point and would continue to do so with the right pricing and products.
EA recently announced plans to allow people to buy items in Tiger Woods that would take a long time to obtain in-game. Now I’ve spent more than a fair amount of time unlocking extra costumes and such items are rarely given out through normal cheat codes. You almost always have to earn them. In these specific cases, I might be tempted to purchase an unlock. It really depends on the game, amount of unlocks, amount of work required to obtain items for free, and how much is being charged.
Let’s take the original DOAXVB for example. After a while, it became very tedious to earn enough money to buy items and swimsuits. It was an endless repeat of volleyball, pool hopping, and gambling. That’s definitely a situation where I might have caved. Rumble Roses XX is another good example. There is a ton of match grinding you have to do for each character and it’s way too much. I only completely had access to one wrestlers outfit selection (you have to meet requirements to make certain costumes purchasable), and even then it wasn’t worth the trouble of collecting enough money to buy everything.
DOAX2 seems like it will be a different story though. The variety of money earning activities is much greater and gambling looks like it’ll be a lot more interesting. Plus, the frustrating system where the girls would throw away expensive bikinis has been altered to make things a bit easier. Although there are a ton of outfits and items, I usually buy only the stuff I like anyway. A recent interview in Famitsu supposedly confirmed that some Gravure scenes will be purchasable on Live, but they can be obtained through the game. Hmmmm…..

Chapter 49.9: Not Your Grandfather's World Series
Of course, that doesn't mean squat right now, as Major League Baseball relishes its mega-millions of ticket sales amid paltry television interest in the actual Fall Classic. Many accuse baseball of selling its soul to corporate interests -- indeed, it seems much of America has done so: politicians, sports, arts & culture. But I think that once we get to game six of this series, we will start to recognize that history is now. Kenny Rogers' tarry palm will be a footnote, much like Roger Clemens' inability to throw a bat barrel as well as he pitches a split-fingered fastball. This Series, which I expected Detroit to run away with, will go the full seven. Though I'm an NL fan rooting for the Tigers, I believe the Cardinals will squeak past them in the final game.

Halloween Safety for Kids
Halloween is almost here and for many kids that means trick-or-treating in their local neighborhoods. As your little ghoul or witch starts talking about going out with their friends, now is a good time to remind them about Halloween safety. Here are some basic tips for staying scary, but safe:
- Use the Parent/Buddy System: Children should be always accompanied by an adult or a buddy (for teens).
- Stay in Well Lighted Areas - Don't go down alleyways or cut across yards.
- Be Wary of Strangers: Trick-or-Treat at houses where you know your neighbors. Don't accept rides or go into houses of strangers.
- Bring Halloween Safety Gear - Use flightlights, reflective tape or glow stick after dark in order to be more visible to cars.
Staying safe sounds pretty easy, right? Well test your Halloween safety skills on The Offical Halloween Safety Game. This game first runs through the basic Dos and Don'ts of Halloween Safety and then tests your child's knowledge, by asking them which choice is the safest thing to do. This is a great test run to see if your trick-or-treater knows their Halloween safety rules.

Support Dog the Bounty Hunter
Normally, I would not post about political topics on a costume blog, but I just have to voice my opinion and support Duane "Dog" Chapman - The Bounty Hunter. This whole Mexican extradition thing is just plain ridiculous. Leave "The Dog" alone and let him do his job. He is not a criminal, he catches them. You can show your support for Dog the Bounty Hunter by being him this Halloween - AnniesCostumes.com carries the official Dog the Bounty Hunter Costume and a matching costume for Beth, Dog's wife available in standard and plus size!

School Girls and Elves
The newest Bullet Witch costume is (surprise) a school girl outfit. Pretty unoriginal. You can’t really tell from the screenshot, but her shirt is somewhat transparent and you can easily see her bra. Um…okay. I guess if you want to satisfy the school girl fetish folks out there, you have to really deliver something extra.
The developer’s weblog shows off some other costume possibilities although none are very exciting. Even though they aren’t blowing me away, I’ll be fairly satisfied if the US release can ship with a good handful of costumes. These one-at-a-time costume downloads for the Japanese release are way too spread apart for my taste.
As a Kingdoms Under Fire fan, I’ve been keeping an eye on the upcoming Circle of Doom action RPG. One interesting discrepancy that has popped up is what the elf character is wearing. Everything from the armlets to the boots is very different from each other. Is it just old concept art? It would be nice if she had both in the game, but we’ll have to wait and see.
If you have a 360, then you MUST download the new DOAX2 trailer on Xbox Live. It’s a whopper (I didn’t time it, but I swear it’s over 5 minutes) with tons of in-game footage. Watching it on your home HDTV gives you a much clearer idea of what the final game will look like.
I’ve heard some folks griping that the graphics don’t seem much improved from DOAXVB, but do a quick comparison. Watch the 360 trailer, then fire up your Xbox and pop in Beach Volleyball. It’s quite a big difference when you really compare the two.
The footage doesn’t contain what the camera mode looks like, but the screen below shows that it’s fairly similar to the system used in DOA4. Again you can adjust the shutter speed and how much light you allow in to the lense. Basically that means you can eliminate blurry pictures or keep the motion blur, and you can make photos look darker or brightly blown out to achieve some crazier looks. There are two cameras, one is manual as shown below and the other is a super fancy automatic.
I’m sure the game will force you to take pics in real time as well. That means you can’t pause and perfectly frame a pose like you could in Rumble Roses XX. Both methods have their fans I’m sure.

Star Wars Movie Costumes
Last Halloween, Star Wars Costumes were the most popular, but this year the battle between the Dark Side and the Jedi continues. The re-release of the original trilogy movies on DVD is keeping Star Wars fresh in everyone's mind. The costumes from these Sci Fi sagas will always be popular every Halloween. In terms of costume sales, The dark side actually wins out, with Darth Vader being the most popular costume for both children and adults. Star Wars character movie costumes are available in all sizes from babies to kids to adults. We even carry a line of Star Wars pet costumes. Yoda is the most popular Star Wars pet costume, by far, but Darth Dog and Princess Leia are also available. One of my favorites, and new this year, is the R2D2 costume for babies and toddlers! Besides, costumes, AnniesCostumes.com also carries light sabers, masks and assorted Star Wars replica weapons. All of our Star Wars costumes and costume accessories are official, licensed products with approval from LucasFilm, Ltd.

Armor, water color peaches, golf, and expansions.
I keep telling myself there’s no way I have time to play lengthy RPGs like Final Fantasy XII, then I see something cool like the above art from the official soundtrack and I start to waffle. Wow, such an interesting mix of Samurai and European armor. I bet they’re some bad ass enemies…or are they friends? Oh the mystery! Then again, I’m not too excited about the costumes of the regular characters, at least not yet.
Something I definitely had to make time for was some Okami. I’m about 2 hours in and loving it. It’s pretty much a dead-on Zelda action adventure clone, but there’s nothing wrong with that as long as you do it right. The art style is amazing, but I had to do a double take at the back of the Tree Spirit Sakuya’s outfit. It’s breezy back there (didn't have time to take a pic of it myself so that rear shot was lifted off Kotaku).
I was wondering what the first Wii game to get some costume action would be… and it looks like Tecmo’s Super Swing Golf is the winner! I’m not sure if that character is actually Kasumi or just someone wearing her outfit (Update: pretty sure it's Kasumi), but the pig-tails gal definitely has at least two changes of clothes.
Who knows if there will be any downloadable new bikinis for DOA Xtreme 2 down the road, but its naughty counterpart, Sexy Beach 3, has already announced an expansion disc! You get at least two new characters (maybe more), new outfits, and new “scenes”. It’s set for release Nov 24th, which is just two months after the main game’s release. Fans are shelling out some dough since SB3 costs around $90 and the expansion is about $40.
