End of month costume round-up
Back from vacation, so let’s get back up to speed.
Against all odds, it turns out Rumble Roses for the 360 is coming out tomorrow (in most stores Wed). I could have sworn it would take longer to get released here, but I’ll take it. Before there was the plethora of info and screens we have now, I had heard that the game’s sexuality may be toned down from what we saw on the PS2. After countless preview movies and screens, we all know that’s totally not the case. But, if you had any doubts, check out the little promotional poster decorating Japanese retail outlets. Oh my.
More Lara
So at least two more of Lara’s outfits have been making the rounds. A blue sweater top and pants combo and a basic black party dress. For the most part, both are yawners.
The black dress looks ridiculous with full guns and backpack, but it’s sort of working for me. I mean, you’re at a party, shit happens, you just gotta strap on your gats right over your party dress. It makes sense. Hopefully some other looks will surface soon.
SUN
According to my man Miguel, the guy who did the character designs for the Kingdoms Under Fire series was hired away by the folks making SUN. Now I know why everyone looks so damn cool in that game. Still, there’s little chance I would ever play it.
Ninety-Nine Nights
On the other hand, there’s a good to great chance I will play Ninety-Nine Nights. It has the same design sensibility as KUF, which is not a coincidence since the developer of Nights is the same as Kingdoms. Add in whatever X-factor Mizuguchi-san adds to the picture and things should hopefully work out.

Chapter 43.5: Math Fun
I recently wrote a book review -- my first. It was on managing and leadership in nonprofits. When I was a Math/English double major in college, the idea of comprehending business management, much less writing somewhat authoritatively on the subject would never have crossed my mind. I wanted to write books that have some mathematic or scientific authenticity to them and which still were compelling stories. I still do. In fact, my second novel will be about a group whose paterfamilias was a geologist as is one of his daughters, the main character. Yet, at its heart, it’s a love story. Another book will play with relativistic science; that too is driven by the characters rather than the science. Personally, I think that’s the only way it could succeed.
But back to my point: I miss math and science. Today, while pulling squad duty, one of our recent high school graduates (now in the second semester of his freshman year) returned from MIT. I asked him what classes he was taking. Among them was about relativistic physics. He mentioned Einstein’s twin paradox, which I’d been reminded of earlier in the day. The paradox is about a pair of twins, one who leaves earth to travel through space at speeds approaching the speed of light, and when he returns, he’s younger than his brother. An article from NASA pointed out a flaw in this hypothesis: the telomeres will have been so damaged by the radiation in space that his body will actually have aged more than his brother who never left the planet.
This kid started pointing out all sorts of other flaws in the hypotheses of time travel, and eventually showed me some elegant little equations that show the impossibilities of traveling at light speed (at least from an algebraic perspective). I asked him for some books for people like me: used to have abilities that have atrophied and wishes to exercise them back into a semblance of their old shape. I’m a mathlete who is trying to get back into shape to at least do simple geometry.
Because of the book review, I will receive a $20 gift card from Barnes & Noble. I think it’s time to read a good science book. Any suggestions?
How To Be A Better Couple
10 steps to enjoying each other better...
18k Yellow Gold Round Ruby and Diamond Ring (1/3 ct. tw.) - $ 2190.00 This stylish 18k yellow gold ring features a vibrant red ruby, the birthstone for July, outlined by a circle of prong-set round diamonds. The rest of the brilliant round diamonds rise up to this circular plate. |
1. Be realistic about each other.
Don't try to turn ur partner into something he or she is not. Let's face it, guys-there's only 1 Pamela Anderson in the world, and even she has had her implants removed! Give ur gal a break and understand that her physical appearance is NOT going to change overnite with the help of a few facials or treatments. And ladies, Brad Pitt has already been taken, so u're gonna have to do with what ur guy is like! Chill out, love each other for what u are. There is more to ur partner than what meets the eye.
Platinum Three-Stone Princess-Cut Diamond Ring (1 ct. tw.) - $ 2455.00 This classic ring features three premium princess-cut diamonds, prong-set in platinum. Total diamond weight is 1 carat. |
2. Always talk things out.
Now guys, I know this is not ur fave pastime or mode of resolving issues, but u know what? This works with the gals. Don't make assumptions about each other's feelings. Learn to xpress urself better so that ur partner undrstands what u're angry about, or hurt about, or even happy about! When u stop talking to each other from the heart, it's the beginning of the end.
18k White Gold Cross-Stitch Emerald and Diamond Pendant - $ 2245.00 A vivid green emerald, the birthstone for May, is featured in this cross-stitch pendant along with a princess-cut diamond. The 18k white gold multi strand rolo chain makes the pendant look stunning and stylish. |
3. Do stuff together.
Make an effort to do things together. Do some sports or involve urselves in some shared activities; something both of u enjoy or are interested in. It could be as simple as watching movies together, or jus strolling hand-in-hand down Orchard Road. Watch soccor with him once in a while though the green patch on TV puts u to sleep in 3 seconds. And guys, do give in if ur gal asks for another day at window-shopping, rather than suggest that she go out with her girlfriends for "that sort of activities" instead. If u're spending more time with ur friends rather than with ur partner, it's a warning sign that u're drifting apart!!!
Platinum Three-Stone Diamond Ring (3/4 ct. tw.) - $ 1840.00 This classic ring features three brilliant diamonds, prong-set in platinum accented by four pave-set diamonds on each side. Total diamond weight is 3/4 carat. |
4. Meet each other halfway.
If he agrees to throw out that rotten T-shirt with the "The_Rock" print, u shouldn't kick up much of a fuss if he asks u to keep ur room tidy. There's gotta be a little giving and taking in a relationship, so learn to meet each other halfway.
18k Yellow Gold Three-Stone Diamond Ring (3/4 ct. tw.) - $ 1465.00 This classic ring features three brilliant diamonds, prong-set in 18k yellow gold accented by four pave-set diamonds on each side. Total diamond weight is 3/4 carat. |
5.Show ur love
Buy her flowers or candy or perfume everynow and then, even if u have been together for 5years. It's wonderful to continue showing someone that u care for him or her. Cook him a special meal, paint him a Valentine's Day card. Knit him mini-socks he can't wear ( like for decoration purposes => ), buy him a packet of milk for breakfast, or pack his wardrobe for him...so he knows u can still be romantic and loving despite having been together for quite a while.
18k White Gold Round Emerald and Diamond Ring (1/3 ct. tw.) - $ 1445.00 This stylish 18k white gold ring features a vivid green emerald, the birthstone for May, outlined by a circle of prong-set round diamonds. The rest of the brilliant round diamonds rise up to this circular plate. |
6. Respect each other.
Stop making jokes about her hair or skin, or whatever it is u love to laugh at. Ask urself if she thinks if its funny. And if he has an inferiority complex about his height, stop ogling at tall guys and make him feel worse! Love is about respecting each other's feelings and being sensitive to each other at all times.
18k White Gold Ruby and Diamond Pendant (1/7 ct. tw.) - $ 1430.00 A vivid red ruby, the birthstone for July, is featured in this pendant along with five pave-set round diamonds. The 18k white gold multi strand rolo chain makes the pendant look stunning and stylish. |
7. Bury the past.
Stop bringing up the past. Gals..don't bring up the happy things about u and ur ex to ur guy, it would jus make him jealous or unhappy. And guys, don't talk about the happy times that u had with ur ex or mention about her in ur every other sentence as it would make ur gal feel un-happy and she might think that u saying all this b'cos u are gonna get back with ur ex or not interested in her anymore.
18k Yellow Gold Round Sapphire and Diamond Ring (1/3 ct. tw.) - $ 1350.00 This stylish 18k yellow gold ring features a deep blue sapphire, the birthstone for September, outlined by a circle of prong-set round diamonds. The rest of the brilliant round diamonds rise up to this circular plate. |
8. Sit on ur jealousy.
All of us go thru' spells of insecurity at the beginning of the relationship, but don't translate that insecurity into jealousy. If u're gonna go through ur partner's mail and cupboard, and eavesdropping on conversations, u know something is wrong - with u!!! Jealousy is like a poison that slowly spreads thru' the relationship before finally killing it. Trust ur partner; love has to have trust in it.
18k White Gold Emerald and Diamond Pendant (1/7 ct. tw.) - $ 1335.00 A vibrant green emerald, the birthstone for May, is featured in this pendant along with five pave-set round diamonds. The 18k white gold multi strand rolo chain makes the pendant look stunning and stylish. |
9. Keep ur commitments to each other.
If ur partner is standing u up all the time and cancelling dates and breaking promises, u need to talk! If u're in a relationship, make ur partner ur priority and don't disappoint them if u can help it. It's really terrible when someone promises to take u to dinner, and then calls to cancel it. Don't make promises u can't keep. If ur partner starts to feel that he/she is not important enough to u, u may jus lose him/her.
18k White Gold Fresh Water Pearl and Diamond Earrings (3/4 ct. tw.) - $ 1085.00 Weave magic with these contemporary 18k white gold earrings featuring two fresh water pearls each, one white in color and the other grey black. The two pearls are set on the opposite sides of a curved line formed of 40 brilliant round diamonds. Total diamond weight is 3/4 carat. The earrings are secured with push backings. |
10. Be honest.
Honesty is not scowling at how awful she looks first thing in the morning, or telling him that he has the biceps of a fly~! When we say "be honest", we mean expressing ur feelings clearly, not being bitingly cruel. When u're hurt, say so, and when u're angry, tell him/her, w/o getting hysterical. If u can't be honest with ur partner, who can u be honest with? æ Love is also about honesty, and a relationship where no honesty exists probably isn't worth it!
Moving Thoughts
Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

Ghost Story #1 (WOOooooooo....*scary sound*)
One night, before going home, I ta pao a kueh teow soup for supper. I was late and I waited for the taxi/bus but there was none. I was getting worried as the night was getting darker and darker. So I tried to flag down private vehicles to take me home. There was no one stopping for me, till one motorcyclist took compensation on me and stopped to give me a lift. He was a man with a kind face. I accepted his offer and got onto his motorbike.
On the way home, we would pass by a temple. At night, the temple would look eerily spooky with the dim lights from the candles.
At first, the motorcyclist was warm and friendly. When the temple was approaching, the motorcyclist eyes grown bigger and bigger. His kind face turned to a face of anger. He was muttering something loud but was not audible to me. I was so scared that I closed my eyes in order not to see his angry face.
Then, the motorcylist stopped in front of the temple and then yelled at me. "Your kueh teow soup is so hot!! It is burning my thigh! Can you please move it away???"
Ghost Story #2
When I was a kid, I have two friends who were very close to each other. They played with each other everyday. It was like, if you see A, you would see B next to him. They were always together.
A loved fried eggs. Whenever he went out for lunch or dinner, without fail, he would ask for fried egg on top of his noodles, fried rice, etc. One day, A involved in an accident and died. B was devastated.
B went to the cemetery to pray everyday. He would go to the nearest restaurant and ta pao a box of fried rice with an egg on top to be offered to A when he went to pray to him. The next day, he opened the box and there was no egg inside! B was petrified. He thought, must be A who came and took the fried egg away. The same thing happened the next day and the day after that. B was confused.
So, one day, he asked the chef to make the same fried rice with a fried egg again. Then, he went to the cemetery to offer it to A. Curious, he opened the box to check for the egg. He was angry to find that, there was no fried egg in the box after all.
Feeling that he had been cheated, he went back to the restaurant and demanded to see the Chef. "Where is the fried egg?? I told you there must be a fried egg inside!! You have cheated me for a few days now! Gimme back my money!!"
Then, the Chef got really angry and opened the box - the fried egg was inside the box. The Chef said, "Stupid! You open the box upside down. No wonder you cannot see the egg!!"
Ghost Story #3
Few year back, I went to town to work with a group of friends during our summer holidays of two months. Being young and away from home for the first time, we drank and smoke like nobody's business.
One night, we were pissed drunk and flagged the last bus down to go home. Being tired, we slept in the bus. It had been awhile that I fell asleep.. I was awake by the chilly wind. I was shocked to find that there was no one in the bus, and I was the last passenger. I looked in front to check out for the driver. But the driver was no where in sight. Yet, the bus was moving. I panicked shitless. I rubbed my eyes to make sure that I was not dreaming.
The night was dark and cold. I hysterically jumped out from the bus and tried to run as hard as I could to get away. Then I heard someone yelled at me from behind the bus. "Hey! Don't run away! Come over here and help to push the bus!" yelled the bus driver. I saw my other friends helping to push the bus, which broke down while I was asleep.

Chapter 43.4: Your Cheating Heart
I liked this column in the San Jose Mercury News, which amusingly describes another incident that’s been in the press recently: a conversation that reportedly occurred between Barry Bonds and Ken Griffey Jr. Basically, the tale goes, Bonds said he told Griffey he keeps having great years but no one respected what he’d accomplished, but the fans and media loved people like McGwire and Sosa, so Bonds decided if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Griffey said he has no recollection about the conversation. As the sons of well regarded ball players, they’ve been around the game all their lives. They know there are some things that aren’t supposed to be said to people outside the game, and that includes reporters.
It seems to me that someone’s trying to besmirch Griffey: guilt by association with Bonds. That’s just wrong. This is a man who’s kept consistent throughout his career, who’s won an MVP, who’s hit more than 500 home runs, and was once regarded as the best player in the game. Not only will he be inducted into the Hall of Fame five years after he eventually retires, but he’s already been named as one of the All-Century team. And as he’s gotten older, his body has deteriorated like it’s supposed to. He doesn’t hit 45-50 homers like he did during his prime. He never got pudgy. I would be amazed if he were a steroid user.
I think Griffey’s accomplishments will eventually be considered among the most impressive of this current era. While other players like Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Canseco, Rafael Palmeiro have all either been accused of using steroids or have admitted to it, Griffey has passed through without such accusations. Some fans may not like his sometimes aloof demeanor, but no true baseball fan can deny that Ken Griffey Jr. is a great baseball player. We need to get this season started so Griffey can get back to doing what he’s always done and these spurious, stories can fall by the wayside. Go ahead and investigate Bonds, whose surly attitude and jealousy may have finally caught up with him. He has ruined his own reputation. He’ll likely pass Babe Ruth’s career home run total by May, but who will really believe that he deserves to be considered like Ruth or Hank Aaron? It’s his own damn fault.

Knocker your eyes out
Looks like the Ninja Gaiden Rachel figure is out or about to be released in Japan from Kotobukiya. It goes for roughly $60 although it’s much more once you figure in shipping and dealer mark-ups. Kotobukiya is releasing the same figure in May (or June if it slips) for $39-49, so I’ve pre-ordered the latter.
Some of their earlier figures had more paint detail in the Japanese original than the domestic release (like Tidus from FFX), so I’m a little worried about the quality of the US version of Rachel. Still, the potential differences (if any) should be minor.
I sort of wanted the Kotobukiya figure of Ayane when it first came out, but that craving has passed since it’s near impossible to find at its original price now.
Rachel’s outfit is basically fetish gear slightly modified with armor and weapons to look more gamery. It could have gone horribly wrong, but it works for me. It’s probably because the costume design and character are so far over-the-top. She has big blue eyes, huge hammer weapon thing, and large…er assets. You either accept it, and love it or not.

Today I want to post something about how to set the scene for a great time.
SETTING THE SCENE FOR A GREAT TIME.
When entertaining friends, nothing beats adding personal touch to tell your friends you care. Here's one you can use .
To make sure everyone knows their place at the table, make your own little name cards. It doesn't have to be anything fancy maybe lovely inked lettering on a plain card or printed manuscript on special paper.Place the card on a flora dinner plate and set it on the table where you want your guest to be seated. You can be assured that he/she will be pleasantly surprised and so very pleased.
More ideas for that personal touch:
If budget's not a problem, buy each guest a small gift in a cardboard gift box and place at each plate setting.Wrap the box with a ribbion and label the gift tag with the guest name to double up as a place card.
Roll plain white napkins loosely and secure with a lovely red ribbion and a name tag. This makes an interesting place card as well.
A stylish table setting doesn't have to be expensive.Use any simple white tablecloth and buy a stretch of sheer fabric(like organza or satin)that's the length of your table and long enough to drop over the sides.Fold in half and use as a table runner for a touch of class.

Rounding up a lovely meal.
Surprise your guests with a final dish of white or mixed chocolates.Even those who generally skip desserts will warm up to the idea of ending the meal with a bite of chocolates placed on the dinner plate.
There are other equally ''sweet'' ways to end a meal:Serve fruits. They're healthy and add a good dose of fibre to any meal.Pick both sweet and tart fruits-like seedless grapes, dates, plums and green apples. This way each guest can pick her own favourite.
Cheese, biscuits and wine. This European-Style meal ender has an advantage.Cheese and biscuits will give those with big appetites a chance to fill their stomachs.Wine ,of course, give you a classy and merry ending.
A scoop or two vanilla ice-cream.This is one ice-cream flavour that's universally enjoyed.Drizzle with hot chocolate or caramel sauce and top with generous sprinkling of chopped mixed nuts.
