Wimpy is spelt without an 'H'. I only put the 'H' in 'Whimpy Whale' because it looked cool having two words starting with 'Wh'. Sorry if I messed up anybody's spelling.
Back to the topic. Some time ago I said that I only had $40 left (now even less), and that "this means rummaging through all the clothes I was going to give away to save a couple." Well that's exactly what I did and one of the things I saved were a pair of white shorts. I told a couple of people I was going to dye them, but most just gave me discouragement. Someone even told me that dyeing my shorts won't turn out much better than dyeing my hair- i.e. bad. But ha! I-did-it-I-did-it-I-did-it!
I got the Dylon fabric dye packets as a prize for being a runner-up in a competition I entered aaaages ago, but I didn't know what to do with them until now. I was planning to stick studs on one of the front pockets but one- that would've costed me money, and two- It would hurt to put my hand in the pocket. I learnt how to do the whole ombre dye technique from http://honestlywtf.com/diy/ombre-denim-diy/. Sounds hard but it isn't. Here are a couple of tips:
1. Do NOT put a lot of powder on the first go, no matter how tempting it is. It will only make the gradient look ugly.
2. Wear gloves. I ended up having hands like that of an Avatar for the next two days.
3. Use a tissue or a sponge to dab some dye onto the shorts to make the gradient more smooth.
As for fraying, it wasn't very hard either- only time consuming. All you need to do is cut the bottom off and anywhere else with scissors, and use a pin to pull the horizontal threads.
